Rick Thornberry is chief executive officer of Radian Group Inc. (NYSE: RDN). Headquartered in Wayne, Radian provides private mortgage insurance and products and services to the mortgage and real estate industries. Radian is one of the largest private mortgage insurers of U.S. residential mortgages, and its real estate services segment is a leader in each of its industries.
Rick has more than 30 years of experience in the financial services industry, as a leader of some of the most innovative mortgage industry businesses. Prior to joining Radian, he co-founded NexSpring Group, LLC in 2006, a firm to partner with and advise leading private equity firms related to potential financial services M&A transactions. The firm was later expanded to provide mortgage industry advisory and technology services to mortgage lenders, financial institutions, mortgage investors and other mortgage industry service providers. Rick was also co-founder of NexSpring Financial, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of NexSpring Group, which is a fintech business focused on improving the overall value proposition for all participants in a residential mortgage origination transaction. He served as the chairman and chief executive officer of both companies until February 2017.
During the financial crisis, he served as a senior advisor to the financial institution investment team at a leading private equity firm. Prior to founding NexSpring, Rick teamed up with KKR, a global investment firm, to co-found and launch Nexstar Financial Corporation, Inc., a leading end-to-end mortgage business process outsourcing firm. Under his leadership, Nexstar was recognized as one of the nation’s fastest growing companies and was acquired by MBNA. Prior to Nexstar, Rick was the president and chief operating officer of Citicorp Mortgage Inc., and he also held executive-level financial and operating positions at Residential Services Corporation of America/Prudential Home Mortgage Company, including as chief financial officer, until the company was sold in 1996. Rick began his career as a certified public accountant at Deloitte where he primarily worked with financial services clients and entrepreneurial businesses.
Rick holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting from St. Louis University.
As Senior Executive Vice President, Chief People and Operating Officer, Mary Dickerson leads Radian’s People, Facilities and Procurement functions, Title and Real Estate Services businesses, Corporate Marketing, Corporate Communications, and Corporate Responsibility or ESG.
Before joining Radian, she served as Executive Vice President, Human Resources at DLL Group, a subsidiary of Rabobank Group, where she led a team of 150 human resource professionals globally for its 6,000 employees in 32 countries. In that role, she was responsible for overseeing the company’s global human resources function and worked to build the organization’s diverse culture, globally connected workforce and best-in-class learning and development program.
Mary was recognized as the 2020 CHRO of the Year by the Delaware Valley HR Person of the Year Award.
Mary’s prior experience includes leading human resources at organizations such as XL Catlin and the Hartford Financial Services Group, as well as CHRO & EVP, General Manager at Accolade, Inc.
Mary earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics with a minor in Sociology from University College Cork, National University of Ireland, and holds an MBA in Management from Saint Joseph’s University and a JD from Widener University School of Law. A licensed attorney admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar, she is a member of The American Bar Association. Mary is a volunteer child advocate attorney for the Pennsylvania-based Montgomery County Child Advocacy Project.
As senior executive vice president, general counsel, Ted Hoffman is responsible for legal and regulatory compliance.
Since joining Radian in 2005, Ted has managed SEC, NYSE and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, corporate governance and other corporate related matters. He was promoted to senior vice president, assistant general counsel in February 2008. Prior to joining Radian, Ted was a senior associate in the Corporate and Securities Group of Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP in Philadelphia.
Ted holds a bachelor’s degree from Colgate University and a JD from Villanova University School of Law. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar.
As executive vice president, corporate controller, chief accounting officer, Rob Quigley is responsible for all accounting operations, including SEC and statutory reporting, accounting policy, general ledger systems, internal financial controls, and accounting and financial operations for Radian and its subsidiaries.
Rob joined Radian in 2009 as senior vice president, assistant corporate controller. He has served as the company’s chief accounting officer since November 2018, and was promoted to EVP, corporate controller and chief accounting officer in August 2020. Prior to joining Radian, he spent 10 years with Capmark Financial Group, Inc., a global provider of financial services to investors in commercial real estate-related assets, where he held positions of increasing responsibility leading to his appointment as senior vice president, chief accounting officer for North American operations. He began his career in the audit practices of KPMG and then Ernst & Young in New York City.
Rob earned a bachelor's degree in English and Economics from Williams College and an MBA in Finance and Accounting from New York University Stern School of Business.
As senior executive vice president, chief digital officer, Eric Ray oversees the vision, strategy and leadership of Radian’s IT and security functions.
Eric has more than 30 years of experience in the technology sector. Most recently, he held the role of General Manager, Global Technology Services at IBM Corporation where he was responsible for the IBM North American technology consulting business, project based services and enterprise-wide technology offerings.
Eric received his bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and his MBA from the University of Detroit.
As Executive Vice President, Chief of Staff, Emily Riley is responsible for facilitating the implementation of the company’s strategic initiatives and has key oversight for projects that are organizational priorities. She also serves as a co-chair of the Executive Inclusion Council, helping to lead the company’s inclusion efforts.
Emily first joined Radian in 1995, serving in various corporate communications, investor relations and reputation management roles until 2007, when she joined Rohm and Haas Company as manager of financial communications. Emily returned to Radian in 2009, where she has led the company’s brand, communications, marketing, corporate responsibility and public relations efforts, most recently as Chief Marketing and Communications Officer. She assumed her current role in 2024.
Emily holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from Rutgers University and a master’s degree in corporate public relations from Rowan University. She is a member of the National Investor Relations Institute (NIRI) where she is an IRC® charter holder and has served on the Board for the Philadelphia Chapter as well as Vice Chair of the Examination Development Committee for IRC® certification. Emily is a member of the Forum-Group, a network of senior communications executives, has served on the Ipsos Reputation Council and is a past board member of the Interfaith Center of Philadelphia.
In 2021, Emily was honored as one of HousingWire's Women of Influence, which recognizes women shaping and propelling the mortgage, real estate and fintech industries. In 2023 and 2024, she was named one of Inman's Marketing All-Stars, an award that celebrates the most boundary-pushing marketers who are driving success and impact in the real estate industry.
As senior executive vice president, Radian Mortgage Capital, Jim Svinth oversees the vision, strategy and leadership of Radian’s mortgage conduit business.
Jim has more than 35 years of leadership experience in all facets of mortgage lending, from origination and acquisition to capital markets functions. His extensive knowledge encompasses capital markets, structured finance, private-label securitization, risk management, mortgage operations, third-party oversight, and M&A due diligence.
Prior to his role at Radian, Jim held executive positions such as EVP, Enterprise Risk Management at loanDepot and President and COO of LendingTree Loans.
Jim holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and economics from the University of Washington and an MBA from Washington State University.
